Actually a couple in my bridal party didn’t

Filed under: Be temos — markjuly @ 18:52

A gift is not a measurement for how much you care about someone. I know when I was in college I got several of my friends $ 20 gifts. As $ 20 was about half my monthly income and a weeks worth of food, that was a lot of money.

I know my MOH was employed but flat broke at my wedding. She bought the dress, got it hemmed, threw in her $ 20 for the bachlorette party, but had to pay for her own transportation to the wedding. She didn’t get me a gift at all, nor did I expect it. Actually a couple in my bridal party didn’t.

If you can’t afford it, you can’t afford it. Though there are numerous things that would have sentimental value. A framed picture of the two of you (especially if it’s a picture she doesn’t have) perhaps from graduation. Make her a cd of some favorite songs. If you can, get an afgan embroidered. Make some art. Whatever your skills are, any of that would be very nice.

I ordered a bunch of OPI nail polishes for my sister’s shower. Cute names like Falling in Love, Going to the Chapel, Kiss on the Chic. OPI has some of the best names. She loved it b/c she is very girly.

Something they can use on their honeymoon that no one else would think of. For example, a snorkel set is roughly $ 25-30. If they are going to the Caribbean it would save them money to have their own set. Get a groomsmen to get the groom a set.

Decorate their wedding night. I bought a dozen roses at Walmart for $ 10 and scattered it around my little cousin’s place. They just bought a house and it was their first night in the new house and their first night.

Honestly you know your best friend better than anyone. Think of something that she would really appreciate that no one other than you would think of. Something funny, something humorous. A sex game from Spencers or a 12 pk of her favorite soda for the honeymoon. It doesn’t have to cost a lot.

Filed under: Be temos — markjuly @ 23:20

Americans who feel bored and underpaid do work hard — at surfing the Internet and catching up on gossip, according to a survey that found U.S. workers waste about 20 percent of their working day。

An online survey of 2,057 employees by online compensation company Salary.com found about six in every 10 workers admit to wasting time at work with the average employee wasting 1.7 hours of a typical 8.5 hour working day。

Personal Internet use topped the list as the leading time-wasting activity according to 34 percent of respondents, with 20.3 percent then listing socializing with co-workers and 17 percent conducting personal business as taking up time。

The reasons why people wasted time were varied with nearly 18 percent of respondents questioned by e-mail in June and July said boredom and not having enough to do was the main reason。

The second most popular reason for ed hardy wasting time was having too long hours (13.9 percent), being underpaid (11.8 percent), and a lack of challenging work (11.1 percent)。

While the amount of time wasted at work seems high, Bill Coleman, chief compensation officer at Salary.com. said the numbers have improved, with the amount of time wasted dropping 19 percent since Salary.com conducted its first annual survey on slacking at work in 2005. Then workers reported wasting 2.09 hours of their working day。

I think (the ugg boots decline) is really a result of the economy and that there’s more business, more work available and less time to sit around wondering what you are going to do with your day," Coleman told reporters。

Boyfriend Uses Girlfriend’s Favorite Website

Scott’s girlfriend, Leslie, was a power user of the popular Mom community site CafeMom. Scott sought to enlist their help in crafting his proposal to her through their popular Achievement Awards program.

He sent Cafe Mom the following e-mail to initiate the proceedings:

“I have a dilemma, and I was hoping your staff might be willing to accommodate a unique request for a one-of-a-kind feature. My girlfriend is a regular user of your site, spending hours of her time every day on the Answers section. I recently purchased a ring, and I am planning to propose to her. I would like to ask if you will work with me to create a memorable experience for her.

I understand that you have “Achievement Awards”, which she strives to collect, and checks on a regular basis. I was thinking of a “Will You Marry Me” achievement that I might be able to activate from a unique URL at any given time.

I would greatly appreciate any input you might have. If this idea is not possible, or if you have other ideas that might make this a special occasion for hercheap ghds , please contact me to further discuss the options.”

Cafe Mom staff member, Brian Craine, brainstormed a way that Cafe Mom and Scott could orchestrate the proposal. Craine and other staff set up a special “award” that would trigger the Saturday evening that he was planning to propose. They did this by adding an object into the code that said if the user was to answer a question after any time on that
afternoon, the “Will you marry me award” would pop up. The

While some 13 million Americans are out of work these days, those still with jobs might have a strange new thing to worry about–getting a promotion can be bad for you, a new study suggests。

British researchers found that when people get promoted, they suffer on average about 10 percent more mental strain and are less likely to find the time to go to the doctor。

"Getting a promotion at work is not as great as many people think. Our research finds that the mental health of managers typically deteriorates after a job promotion, and in a way that goes beyond merely a short-term change," said Chris Boyce of the ugg boots University of Warwick. "There are no indications of any health improvements for promoted people other than reduced attendance at GP surgeries [i.e. doctors visits], which may itself be something to worry about rather than celebrate."

  “在工作上获得提升并不像很多人想的那么棒。我们的研究发现,经理的心理健康往往在提升之后下降,而且在某些方面,这不仅仅是个短期的变化。”Warwick大学的Chris Boyce说,“没有任何一种迹象显示在获得提升之后,健康水平也会提高。唯一的变化是去看医生的次数变少了,而这本身可能也是需要担心而非庆祝的事情。”

Gold hits 28-year high on ailing dollar

Filed under: Be temos — markjuly @ 11:06

LONDON (Reuters) - Precious metals raced higher on Tuesday, boosted by an ailing dollar and strong oil, with gold hitting 28-year highs, silver soaring to its best price in 27 years and platinum setting a record.

High prices sparked sales of gold scrap from Indonesia and Thailand to Singapore, a key center for bullion trading in Southeast Asia. Physical buyers remained nervous in India, the world’s top gold consumer, ahead of a key festival this week.

"It’s just renewed vigor in the market, and a belief that right now gold is unbeatable. The market has no faith in the U.S. dollar. What we are seeing is money continuing to come out of the dollar and going into gold," said Peter Hillyard, head of metals sales at ANZ Investment Bank.

"There is a chance that this market may have to consolidate, but we will go to $850 by January — not ‘may’ but ‘will.’ It’s a done deal. It’s going to happen."

Spot gold hit a high of $824.30 an ounce, its best level since January 1980. It was quoted in New York at $820.90/821.70 by 2:15 p.m. (1915 GMT), against $808.80/809.60 late in the U.S. market on Monday.

Gold hit an all-time high of $850 in January 1980, when investors bought heavily in the face of high inflation linked to strong oil prices, Soviet intervention in Afghanistan and the effects of the Iranian revolution. After adjusting for inflation, that level was equal to $2,079 at 2006 prices.

The dollar fell to all-time lows against the euro and a basket of major currencies as investors feared that fall-out from credit turmoil was far from over and the Federal Reserve would have to cut interest rates further.

"The dollar is the biggest, biggest issue in this market here. Crude at all-time high, and dollar at all-time lows. The metals have to rally," said Joseph Guzzardi, a floor trader at Sabin Commodities in New York.

A weaker dollar makes gold cheaper for other currency holders and often lifts bullion demand. The metal is also generally seen as a hedge against oil-led inflation.

Oil jumped more than $3 to a record high above $97 a barrel as the U.S. government predicted robust demand and tight output from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries would lead to a supply crunch.

"It’s still largely a dollar story, but there is clearly more than that. Gold has just got momentum," Stephen Briggs, an economist at SG Corporate and Investment Banking, said.

JUMPS IN OTHER CURRENCIES

Gold also surged in some other currencies, with the metal quoted in sterling hitting a record high of 393.83 sterling per ounce. It traded at 564.02 euros , just below last year’s all-time high of 569.90 euros.

UBS Investment Bank lifted its one-month gold price forecast to $850 from an earlier prediction of $700 an ounce, but left its three-month forecast unchanged at $750.

"We caution investors that capturing the expected moves to the upside will require nimble trading as the risks of trading gold have materially increased over the past few weeks as liquidity has declined and volatility increased," UBS said.

Briggs also said the metal had gone so far so fast and the investment community was very long in gold.

"We desperately need a correction now. It has been going up almost without a break since $650 back in the summer and no correction on the way. If we do get a correction, I think it’s going to be very sharp and brutal," he said.

In other markets, the benchmark Tokyo gold futures contract rose above the closely watched level of 3,000 yen per gram for the first time since July 1984.

Silver rose as high as $15.40 an ounce before falling to $15.36/15.42, against its previous finish of $14.64/14.69 on Monday.

Platinum hit a record high of $1,474 and was at $1,473/1,477, versus its previous close of $1,459/1,463. Palladium rose to $375/379, compared with $371/376 late in New York Monday.

Changing Your Personal Reality - Part 2

Filed under: Be temos — markjuly @ 11:05

Time to Make Waves

In part one of this post we discussed the tendency some of us have to allow situations, circumstances, events and even other people to control our lives; in essence, giving away our power in an attempt to be accepted, valued, appreciated and loved. By trying to “fit in and not make waves” (as someone shared with me recently) it seems that some of us have lost our identity and sense of self. The good news is that we can take back control of our life and still be that kind, generous and thoughtful person – who also happens to be strong, confident, assertive, productive, successful and powerful. And no, we don’t need to compromise our beliefs, goals, character or core values to do so. In fact, taking back our power can be the most important step towards living a life of true purpose, alignment (with our core values), integrity and joy.

While the following strategies are very effective, they are not always comfortable or easy to implement, so it’s a good thing that you and I are all about doing what works – not what’s easy! Not every point will be relevant for every person, so see what resonates for you. Also be warned that I may be a little… er… blunt in places (surprising I know), so if you’re feeling a bit presh you may wanna read from behind a cushion (like in a scary movie). Enjoy.

1. Stop looking for easy and start “doing” effective.

Today. All too often our desire to live a comfortable, painless, easy and safe existence (all things driven by fear) is the very thing that kills our potential, our productivity, our ability to develop and ultimately, our spirit. It is no coincidence that we (the society) have both (1) a widespread aversion to anything that makes us uncomfortable and (2) a high percentage of people who regularly feel frustrated, unfulfilled, lost and miserable. Ironically, it is our aversion to working against resistance that stops us from growing, learning, evolving and adapting. Sometimes (in the moment) we believe it’s simply easier to just “fit in”, to compromise and to bite our tongue. While this is understandable on occasion, over the long term this kind of behaviour and thinking will set us up for unhealthy relationships, stagnation, disconnection, frustration, desperation and misery. In order to take back your power you will need to be courageous (that’s a choice by the way), you will need to be prepared to get uncomfortable (that’s where you learn, grow and adapt) and you will need to do things that may piss other people off – perhaps the ones who previously pulled your strings for their own gain.

2. Face your fears.

You can never take back your power until you confront the things that scare you. By the way, being fearful does not represent weakness but rather humanity.

“Show me the person who fears nothing and I’ll show you an idiot.”

*There’s also an argument that the person who fears nothing might also be the person who has reached enlightenment… but that’s a discussion for another day.

If things only have the power and influence that we assign them (and they do), then fear is something we can control and use for our own personal development. For the most part fear is a completely personal thing. It’s not about the situation, circumstance or environment but rather US in it; how we react to, process, cope with and interpret the events in our world. That’s why we can see two people doing the exact same thing at the same time (a bungee jump for example); one is excited and having a great time, while the other is terrified and having the worst time ever. That’s because it ain’t about the jump; it’s about the jumper. Keeping in mind that each jumper creates his or her own reality. Of course there are healthy fears – not wanting to swim with a shark for example – but what we’re talking about here are those destructive and unhealthy fears that have been known to make people prisoners of their own mind. For a lifetime.

3. When nice isn’t. (Nice)

Seek to be strong not nice. Too many nice people get chewed up and spat out because all they have is a bunch of “nice-ness” and zero personal power. Sometimes nice-ness is actually a euphemism for weakness and far too often our need to be seen as the “nice person” (oh please) is what brings us undone. Endeavouring to keep everyone in your world happy is an exercise in futility, frustration and exhaustion. And stupidity. In short, it can’t be done. It’s not your job to “make” people happy; it’s your job to be you. And not the “you” that people want you to be, but rather, your authentic self. The one who has clarity, certainty, contentment and calm about who and what they are. And no, being you does not mean being selfish.

4. Stop being a victim.

The world isn’t fair. The majority don’t care about you or your issues. Shit happens. Bad things happen to good people. And lots of people are selfish and nasty. There; we’ve cleared that up. Now, stop seeking pity, attention and sympathy and get on with it. Stop having the same pointless discussions about the same issues, stop waiting to be “saved” and stop giving away your power. You don’t need universal approval, acceptance or endorsement, you need a different attitude.

5. Win respect through your actions.

Talk less, do more. What you do will tell the rest of us far more about who you are than any words that might come out of your mouth. Words are cheap and often meaningless. Most big talkers are just that. And nothing more.

6. Keep re-inventing yourself.

Being stagnant and inflexible in a dynamic world is a sure-fire way to become redundant, unnecessary and powerless. While your core values, beliefs and standards might remain constant, it is important that you continue to adapt, learn, grow and develop with your ever-changing world.

7. Value yourself.

Stop treating others as though they are of greater worth than you. Nobody is more important than anyone else. And nobody is more important than you. Nobody. This is not about having a massive ego or being self-righteous; it’s about stopping all the self-sabotage. You know what I mean. It’s about not rationalising mediocrity and failure any more. It’s about changing your standards and your thinking. It’s about not letting your poor self-esteem get in the way of your potential and your possibilities. It’s about not letting your past become your future. In case you don’t know or you haven’t been told, I will tell you now; you are worthy, you are talented, you are good enough and you are powerful. More than you know. If you don’t believe those words then you don’t value yourself as you should.

*By the way, power and humility can go comfortably hand in hand.

8. Fiercely protect your brand.

Don’t associate with people, organisations, situations or products that will damage your reputation. In the professional world (where many of us spend a great deal of our lives) your brand is your power. The stronger your brand, the more power you have (in that world). Prospective employers, potential business associates and customers will all “buy what you’re selling” based largely (if not solely) on their perception of you; your product, your service, your ability, your skill, your integrity and your value to them.

The Last Bit

I know that in my last post I said I’d be sharing ten strategies but I ended up amalgamating some of the points, so that’s why we’ve ended up with eight. I’m not short-changing you… honest! Hope this installment has been of some value to you. As always. I would appreciate your feedback on this post. The comments are important to me as it gives me some insight into the kinds of areas that you want me to explore… so don’t be a stranger. Even you chronic Lurkers. Leave a comment below.

Top 10 Most Secure Jobs in 2011

Filed under: Be temos — markjuly @ 11:03

How secure is your job? Whether you think you’re indispensable or totally expendable, if there’s anything the last few years have taught us it’s that nobody really knows what to expect. But job security doesn’t have to be a total game of chance, as research and statistics do point out some jobs and some industries as being more stable than others. Using the U.S. Department of Labor as our guide, we’ve compiled this list of the top 10 most secure jobs for 2011.

1. Nurse
Nursing is a field that runs perpetually lean anyway; but as health care demands expand in every direction, opportunities for both LPNs and RNs will continue to expand along with it. With job growth predictions hovering in the 21 percent-22 percent range by 2018 the already very large industry is expected to see more new jobs over the next several years than any other occupation.

2. Physical therapist
Driven primarily by aging baby boomers and technology advances that improve survival rates for trauma victims and children with birth defects, the demand for physical therapy is on the rise and is expected to continue growing by as much as 30p ercent by 2018. The greatest needs are in departments where geriatric patients frequent (acute hospital, skilled nursing, and orthopedic) as well as in rural and low-income areas.

3. Pharmacist
Employers have already been reporting difficulty finding and keeping enough pharmacists and as the population ages demand will only continue to increase. The Department of Labor predicts job growth for pharmacists will rise a total of 17 percent by 2018, which when added on top of the current shortage, makes for a very favorable job market in the field.

4. Physician and Surgeon
Tighter health care budgets and cost-cutting measures may keep the demand for doctors and surgeons at a more modest growth rate compared to other health care jobs (22 percent by 2018), but the fact remains that the expanding health care industry will keep the jobs coming. The job forecast is positive for all physicians and surgeons — but especially those willing to work in rural and low-income areas.

5. Computer systems analyst and Administrator
Technology is at the center of both business and pleasure these days, so it’s no wonder technology analysts and administrators are in high demand. All areas of the field are growing, but the most expansion (53 percent growth by 2018) is in network systems and data communications (network architects and engineers, Web administrators and developers) as more companies upgrade technology and as the Internet and wireless systems gain traction in the business world.

6. Computer Software Engineer
Our increasing dependence on technology is spurring demand for not only those who can analyze and repair high tech systems but also those who can make the most of them by creating new and improved software applications. Software engineers with expertise in mobile and wireless technology, networking, and the internet are in especially high demand and overall the field is expected to boom by 32 percent by 2018.

7. Biomedical and Environmental engineer
As a whole the engineering field is expected to grow at an average pace; but those specializing in biomedical and environmental engineering can expect to see significant increases (31-72 percent) in the demand for their skill set as an aging population and growing health care industry call for improved medical devices and an ever-increasing environmental awareness spurs companies to seek help meeting new regulations and heading off environmental problems before they arise.

8. Accountant, Auditor, and Financial advisor
Due to ever-changing financial laws, business growth, and an aging population nearing retirement, job prospects for financial experts are estimated to grow by 22-30 percent by 2018. Also helping to boost job security in the financial field: the increasing push toward transparency and accountability when it comes to high-stakes money matters and business management.

9. Veterinarian
Not only are more people making animals a part of their family (cats especially) but they’re placing a higher value on their pets and are willing to pursue and pay more for advanced and intensive veterinary services. Due to the rise in demand and the limited number of accredited veterinary schools (there are only 28 in the United States) veterinarians are predicted to have 33 percent more job opportunities by 2018.

10. Lawyer, Paralegal, and Legal assistant
The law is only getting more complex and jobs for attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants aren’t going anywhere. Projected to grow by 13-21 percent over the next decade as other industries boom and require additional legal services, the legal field will produce the majority of new jobs in health care, intellectual property, bankruptcy, corporate and security litigation, antitrust law, and environmental law.

Filed under: Be temos — markjuly @ 11:01

Tucked away in our subconsciousness is an idyllic vision. We see ourselves on a long trip that spans the continent. We are traveling by train.Out the windows, we drink in the passing  scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at a crossing, of cattle grazing on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, of row upon row of corn and wheat,of flatlands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hillsides, of city skylines and village halls。

But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day at a certain hour, we will pull into the station. Bands will be playing and flags waving. Once we get there, so  many wonderful dreams will come true and the  pieces of our lives will fit together like a  completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, damning the minutes for loitering-waiting, waiting, waiting for the station。

"When we reach the station, that will be it!" we cry. "When I’m 18." "When I buy a new 450SL Mercedes Benz!""When I put the last kid through college.""When I have paid off the mortgage!" "When I get a promotion." "When I reach the age of retirement, I shall live happily  ever after!"

  "进站时,一切都好了!"我们呼喊着。"我满18岁时。""我买了一辆新的450SL奔驰轿车时!""当我供最小的孩子读完大学。""当我还了所有的贷款。""当我退休的时候,就从此过上了幸福的生活!"

Sooner or later, we must realize there is no station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances us。

"Relish the moment" is a good motto, especially when coupled with Psalm 118:24, "This is  the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." It isn’t the burdens  of today that drive men mad. It is the regrets over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow.  Regret  and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today。

  "品味现在"本身就是一句很好的箴言,再加上《圣经?诗篇》第118章第24行的这样一句话,使得它更显特别:"主创造了今天,我们为活在今日而欢欣雀跃。"导致人们疯狂的往往不是今日的沉重,而是对昨日的懊悔和对明日的畏惧。懊悔和畏惧如同一对孪生的窃贼,偷走了我们的今天。

So stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, climb more mountains, eat more ice creams, go barefoot more often, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more, cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough.

How to Predict an Earthquake with a Doughnut

Filed under: Be temos — markjuly @ 23:54

There is a sweet new way to predict earthquakes and it’s making waves throughout Southern California.

Many scientists believe that predicting earthquakes is still impossible, but the Mogi Doughnut seems more credible than the Quake Quack’s theory. Colorful charts do not a seismologist make.

According to the Mogi Doughnut concept, created by the ed hardy clothing Japanese seismologist it’s named after, smaller quakes over decades can increase pressure on faults in the doughnut hole center, which may lead to the Big One. Can the recent uptick in shaking in Southern California be part of a delicious pastry prediction?

According to the LA Times, UC Davis physicist and geologist John Rundle thinks the recent activity– the quakes in Borrego Springs, Baja Mexico, and Eureka– are forming a circular pattern with a spot of unusual calm in the SoCal middle.

Tracing the passage of pressure from one fault system to another is a
cheap ugg boots relatively new approach to seismology, but the method has recently proved successful in predicting quakes. Seismologists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory suspected that the 7.2 Easter quake in Mexicali had increased pressure on a section of the San Jacinto fault system, and predicted an earthquake there. Three months later, Blamo! the San Jacinto fault under Borrego Springs was shaking.

If the a Mogi doughnut is really surrounding Southern California, it means our larger fault systems, the San Andreas, Elsinore and San Jacinto, which need more pressure to blow, have been gaining it in doses from each of these smaller, surrounding quakes. And the big ghds one could be just one pressurized payload away.

Or, this could just be another quake quack theory. With sprinkles on top.read more pls at:
